What is Reading?

Reading Skills Guide

Reading is the third of the four primary language skills and is known as a "receptive" skill. This is because, when we read, we are receiving language:
Listening (← in)
Speaking (out →)
Reading (← in)
Writing (out →)

Why Read?

Reading is valued even in one’s native language for its ability to entertain, educate, expand horizons, enrich experiences, and improve coordination and social skills.

When it comes to learning a foreign language, like English, reading offers even more advantages that can accelerate and deepen language acquisition.

Reading is a fundamental skill for language learners, as improvements in reading also enhance listening, speaking, and writing abilities.
