What is Shared Reading?
Shared reading is a collaborative and interactive approach to reading where students and teachers read and discuss the same text together. It's particularly beneficial for early-stage readers as it helps them develop word recognition, reading fluency, and vocabulary. The teacher models effective reading strategies, which students can then mimic. This method often utilizes big books with large print and illustrations to enhance the experience. The primary goal of shared reading is to stimulate conversation about the text and emphasize comprehension, all while maintaining an enjoyable atmosphere.
The nature of the activity makes it necessary for a modeling agent (a connoisseur of the language) to be an active supervisor in the process so, in this log we will provide activities which require the necessary supervision from a more knowledgeable person to guide, model, pronounce and correct mistakes.
