Reflective reading is a way of reading that goes beyond just understanding the words on the page. Instead, it encourages you to pause, think, and connect the ideas in the text to your own experiences, feelings, and knowledge. Reflective reading is about making the text personally meaningful and memorable. It is about making the necessary connections required to fully understand a text by linking it to previous experiences, likes or dislikes. Here, background knowledge plays a big role.
It is important to note that all students are different. They have different backgrounds, ideas, perceptions, approaches and hence will have different reflections. This is a type of activity in which a reader´s cultural perceptions, likes, dislikes, hobbies and many other quirks come into play and we have room to play related to the material we want them to be exposed. Even if their level is not as high as we wished, their cultural background and schema is developed enough as to understand better if they read materials that they like.
